A WORD ABOUT CONSTRUCTION

Wood Boat Builders builds cedar strip canoes on jigs that allow us to conform exactly to designed specifications.  The designs build by us are unattainable in  mass production due to the complicated three dimentional shapes which are not easily removed from a production mold.  Therefore we are able to produce very efficient  hull designs.  Also strip canoes are not created equally.  Most strip construction is done by stapeling the strips to a sacrificial mold, which produces defects at regular intervals where each staple is driven in.  Our construction method does not use staples anywhere!  We use special jigs and jig clamps during the assembly of the hull to insure uniform fit to the mold and to each adjoining strip,  producing a   designer hull with no defects from our construction tecniques.

The hull is encased in epoxy resin and it's strength is gained using special glass cloth which is encapsulated in the epoxy over the hull. This also is very transparent which allows the beauty of the wood grain to show through.

All wood joints for the trim ( Decks - Gunwales - etc.) are epoxy fastened , only the Seats / Thwarts and Yokes, are bolted with stainless steel fasteners to allow flex in the hull and removal for replacement or refinishing.

Again we are a small Builder which allows us to fabricate only the highest quality boats and accessories.
